Google indexes the mobile version of your site, not the desktop one. So the mobile experience is the one that ranks. Use responsive design so one site works everywhere, and keep tap targets, fonts and layouts usable on a small screen. (Note: Accelerated Mobile Pages, or AMP, used to be pushed for this. Google has since dropped the AMP requirement for top stories and it is no longer worth the effort for most sites, so skip it and just build a fast, responsive site.)

HTTPS and security

HTTPS is a basic ranking signal and a trust signal. Serve every page and every asset (images, scripts, stylesheets) over HTTPS to avoid mixed-content warnings. Run security checks regularly, and on WordPress a plugin like Wordfence or Sucuri handles most of it. Choose hosting with proper security rather than the cheapest option.

Structured data (schema)

Structured data tells search engines exactly what your content is, and it can earn rich results (star ratings, FAQs, job postings and more).
