If you are planning a new campaign and don't have real data yet, use the benchmark values already filled in below — they reflect typical India Meta Ads performance.
1
Total Monthly Budget
This is your total spend across all Meta campaigns in a month. Find it in Meta Ads Manager → Billing → Payment Activity, or add up the daily budgets of all active campaigns.
2
CPM (Cost Per 1,000 Impressions)
In Meta Ads Manager, open your campaign → click Columns → Customise Columns → search "CPM" → add it. You will see CPM separately for each campaign. Use the actual CPM from each funnel stage campaign. India benchmarks if no data: TOFU ₹200–400 · MOFU ₹400–600 · BOFU ₹600–900
3
Link CTR (Click-Through Rate)
In Meta Ads Manager → Columns → Customise Columns → search "Link CTR" → add it. This shows the percentage of impressions that became link clicks. Use Link CTR, not CTR (All) — they are different. India benchmarks if no data: TOFU 0.5–1.5% · MOFU 1–3% · BOFU 2–5%
4
Frequency
In Meta Ads Manager → Columns → Customise Columns → search "Frequency" → add it. This tells you how many times each person saw your ad on average. Healthy range: TOFU 2–3 · MOFU 3–5 · BOFU 4–6. Above 8 = ad fatigue, refresh your creative.
5
Landing Page Conversion Rate (BOFU only)
This is not from Meta — check your Google Analytics → Conversions or your landing page platform (Unbounce, Instapage etc.). It is the percentage of visitors who completed your goal. Typical range: Lead gen 3–8% · E-commerce 1–4%. Use 3% if unsure.

💡 New to Meta Ads? Start with 60% TOFU / 30% MOFU / 10% BOFU. Once you have a retargeting audience of 10,000+ people, you can shift more to MOFU and BOFU where CPA is lower.

A real funnel is a flow: only people your TOFU ads reach can be retargeted at MOFU, and only people your MOFU ads warm up can be retargeted at BOFU. These rates set how much carries forward — they are planning estimates, so tune them to your creative. Already have a warm audience? Add it below and BOFU can retarget it directly.

📌 Planning estimate. This models a connected funnel — TOFU reach builds the retargeting pool that MOFU works, and MOFU builds the warm pool that BOFU converts. Each stage is capped by the audience the stage before it actually built, so the forecast reflects what your budget split can realistically deliver. Tune the CPM, CTR, frequency and audience-flow rates above to match your account, then validate against live Meta data.

Stage CPA vs Overall CPA — BOFU Stage CPA is just the BOFU spend divided by conversions, so it looks low. Overall CPA divides your entire funnel spend by conversions, because your TOFU and MOFU budgets are what built the warm audience BOFU converts. Overall CPA is the number that decides whether the funnel is profitable — compare it to your margin or customer value.

What happens at each level of the Meta funnel?

Each stage requires a different objective, creative approach, and audience. Running the wrong format at the wrong stage is the most common Meta Ads mistake.

📢
TOFU
Awareness — Cold Audiences
Target broad interest-based, lookalike, or demographic audiences. The goal is reach and brand recall, not clicks or conversions. CPMs are lowest here because you are not competing for high-intent audiences.
Video ViewsReachReelsBrand Awareness
💬
MOFU
Consideration — Warm Audiences
Re-engage people who watched your TOFU videos, visited your Instagram profile, or clicked on an ad. Show them more detailed content — testimonials, product demos, case studies. Goal is to move from awareness to intent.

🎯
BOFU
Conversion — Hot Audiences
Target people who visited your website, added to cart, or started checkout. These audiences have the highest intent and typically convert at 3 to 10x the rate of cold audiences. Your strongest offer and most direct CTA goes here.

Build the assets your Meta funnel needs

Common questions about Meta Ads funnel planning

What is a Meta Ads funnel?
A Meta Ads funnel is a three-stage structure for running Facebook and Instagram campaigns. TOFU targets cold audiences with awareness campaigns. MOFU re-engages people who interacted with your TOFU ads. BOFU targets warm retargeting audiences — people who visited your website, watched your videos, or abandoned a cart — with conversion-focused ads.
How should I split my Meta Ads budget across TOFU, MOFU and BOFU?
A common starting split is 50% TOFU, 30% MOFU, and 20% BOFU. New brands with no audience should spend more on TOFU to build retargeting pools. Established brands with large custom audiences can shift 40 to 60% of budget to BOFU retargeting, where CPAs are typically lower and purchase intent is highest.
What is CPM in Meta Ads and what is a good CPM?
CPM stands for Cost Per Mille — the cost to show your ad 1,000 times. In India, typical Meta Ads CPMs range from ₹200 to ₹500 for broad awareness campaigns, ₹400 to ₹800 for engagement retargeting, and ₹600 to ₹1,200 for conversion campaigns targeting high-intent audiences. CPMs vary by audience size, creative quality, and ad objective.
What is a good CTR for Meta Ads?
A link click-through rate of 1 to 2% is considered average for cold audience campaigns. Warm retargeting campaigns typically see 2 to 5% link CTR. Rates above 3% for TOFU campaigns indicate strong creative and audience relevance. Rates below 0.5% suggest the creative, audience, or offer needs to be refreshed immediately.
What is the difference between impressions and reach on Meta?
Reach is the number of unique people who see your ad. Impressions is the total number of times your ad is shown — the same person can generate multiple impressions. The ratio of impressions to reach is frequency. For TOFU campaigns, keep frequency below 3 to 4. For retargeting, slightly higher frequency (5 to 8) is acceptable and often necessary for BOFU conversion.
Why is BOFU CPA lower than TOFU CPA?
BOFU audiences have already interacted with your brand — they visited your website, watched a video, or started checkout. This prior exposure means they are far more likely to convert when shown a targeted offer, resulting in a much lower cost per acquisition. TOFU audiences are cold and need multiple touchpoints before they are ready to buy.
How many Meta Ads touchpoints does it take to convert a cold audience?
Research suggests 7 to 10 touchpoints on average before a cold audience converts. This is why a full-funnel strategy outperforms running only conversion campaigns to cold audiences. TOFU builds awareness, MOFU builds trust, and BOFU closes with a direct offer. Skipping TOFU and MOFU typically results in a very high CPA from conversion campaigns to cold audiences.
What Meta ad formats work best at each funnel stage?
TOFU works best with video ads (Reels, video views) that build brand awareness at low CPM. MOFU performs well with carousel ads showing product benefits, testimonial videos, and lead generation forms for people who engaged with TOFU content. BOFU converts best with single-image or video ads showing specific products, dynamic product ads for e-commerce, and strong urgency-based CTAs.
What is a good conversion rate for Meta Ads landing pages?
For BOFU Meta Ads campaigns sending traffic to a dedicated landing page, a conversion rate of 3 to 8% is typical for lead generation. E-commerce product pages typically convert at 1 to 4%. Rates below 1% indicate a landing page problem — poor message match with the ad, slow load speed, or an unclear CTA. BOFU landing pages should mirror the exact offer shown in the ad.
How do I know if my Meta Ads funnel is working?
Monitor these key indicators: TOFU CPM below ₹600 for broad audiences. TOFU link CTR above 1%. MOFU retargeting audiences of at least 1,000 people (10,000+ for reliable results). BOFU CPA profitable relative to product margin or lifetime value. Overall funnel CPA is calculated as total spend across all stages divided by BOFU conversions.
Do I need separate campaigns for TOFU, MOFU and BOFU?
Yes. Separate campaigns give you independent budget control, clear performance data per stage, and the ability to optimise each stage separately. Mixing cold and warm audiences in the same campaign makes it very hard to diagnose problems, and Meta will typically over-deliver to the cheapest segment rather than the most valuable one.
Is this funnel planner free to use?
Yes, completely free. No login, no credit card, no usage limit. All calculations run in your browser and no data is sent to a server.
